Upset City in the Thunderdome

Game 2 of Light Blue's quest for the T shirt was a set back for the Light Blue faithful. Right after the opening tip you could tell that it was going to be a track meet. Mel Chibende came back from his week long vacation to try and lead his squad to the victory. Gray and Blue kept trading baskets for most of the first half. The crowd was waiting for Light Blue to pull away and they never did. Light Blue was coming off a big victory vs Damien's team. Gray was coming off a poor effort vs the Green team. With less then a minute left Richard drove to the hoop and made what looked to be the game tying basket only to get called for traveling. It was Kody Hine's rebounds and put backs that drove the Gray team to their first win of this young season. Light Blue's average age of 24 didn't help as the old dude's ran out of gas near the end of the second half. Look for this game to be a big momentum builder for the gray team. Light Blue has some questions to be answered when it comes to being in shape and playing D. Richard Young had his worst game of his long and bootsy intramural career. His wife was in the house and maybe this threw him off. Next game for Blue is vs the green team and it is two weeks from today.

Intramural Power Rankings Week 2: This mug just got real interesting.

If anything is to be learned from the first week of intramural basketball it is this, You need to bring your A game to the thunderdome if you want to get that win. There is so much basketball to be played and if anything this last week made it more confusing then clearer. Who is better Navy or Purple? Is Light Blue the most overrated team in the league? Is Gray a good team? Will Jared Henry's team turn it around? So many questions. So without further adieu here are this week's Power Rankings.

1.  Purple Squad
Drew and T's team rise to the top of this week's PR's.  A convincing win against yellow and an overtime victory against the Orange squad means that this team is ready to play.  Orange did not use it's size as an advantage when they played this purple team.  Next week's matchup vs Navy will answer alot of questions.

2.  Navy Squad
Navy gets the #2 spot because they got bailed out on a technical against the Orange team.  This team has shown guts and determination in their first two wins.  Will navy be too physical for Purple to handle?  The next game looks like some of the old CVA vs Minnetonka flavor that we all love so much.

3.  Maroon Squad
The rest of the teams in the league have all lost at least one game.  Damien's team has shown consistency in playing hard.  This team bring's it's hard hats and lunch pale's every game.  They care to much to not play hard.

4.  Light Blue Squad
A tough win against maroon without their best player.  A bad performance against a hard playing gray team.  This team is clutch free throws away from being undefeated and winless.  If this team doesn't develop defensive consistency they will disappoint their wife and girlfriends.

5.  Gray Squad
This team was one game away from being the worst team in intramurals.  Nobody told this to Kody, Kyle, and Chase who pulled out an impressive victory over Light Blue.  This team is Jekyll and Hyde.  If they get on the same page they will be a tough out.

6.  Green Squad
The Green team came out the gate with a chip on their shoulder.  They showed that in their win against the gray team.  If a couple bounces go their way they are undefeated.  This team is a perfect example of the parity in the league.  Their next matchup with Light Blue will say alot about their season.

7.  Yellow Squad
This team is scrambling for answers.  Many people had this team as #1 or #2 when the season started.  Two bad efforts have put them near then end of the PR's.  If Seth and Jared want to turn this season around they need to develop some chemistry with their teammates quickly.

8.  Orange Squad
Technical fouls and poor performances have put these guys in the the basement.  Both games that they played came down to the final seconds.  That is just a testament to the play that is happening in this year's intramurals.  In order for Orange to get in the playoffs this year their sportsmanship scores have to be through the roof the rest of the way.

January hurt

I should have watched this before our game.

I found this in one of my old Skilpak's

Memory Lane Bullet Points

  • There are two things that take me back more then anything.  Weather and Music.
  • When spring rolls around I think back to my senior year of high school.  I love it when the weather gets warm enough that you can be outside but there is still a chill in the air.  You can see the buds on the trees and you hope more snow doesn't come and ruin them.
  • Music is just as powerful.  These are some songs that take me back.
  • The song "Linger" by the Cranberries takes me back to my first summer working at Union in 06.  That summer keeps getting farther and farther away.  I listened to this song on repeat that summer.
  • Any of the first three songs on the "Thank Me Later" album by Drake reminds me of the GC last summer.  I would walk around Atlanta with that album blazing.
  • The song "#41" by Dave Mathews takes me back to when my brother got his drivers license.  Miriam had made mix cd with that song on it and we listened to it in Michael's car as we drove around KC.
  • "Sky Might Fall" by Kid Cudi takes me back to the month I started this blog.
  • "Thugz Mansion" by Nas and Tupac takes me back to my dorm room with my buddies
  • "Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service takes me back to when I met my wife.
  • Listening to anything off the first two Jars of Clay albums takes me back to New Haven Pathfinders.

Miriam and Ted were on TV lookin dope.

Light Blue 1-0

Our first game of the season came down to the wire against Damien and Max's team. We kept trying to pull away through out the game but the Maroon squad just wouldn't let up. The game was really sloppy and I know we will get better. Next game we get Mel Chibende to hoop with us. That won't hurt. When you talk as much trash as I do you better win the game.
When I first started to date Natalie she would come to my basketball games to watch me. Maybe it was foolishness or maybe it was ignorance but I always thought that girls would be impressed if they thought I was really intense and into the game. One day I asked her if how I played basketball made a difference in how she viewed me. She said "no". So all that time I was working so hard to impress her and she wasn't impressed at all. She was actually embarrassed that I was making a fool out of myself when I got angry. Maybe other girls are impressed by athletes that fly off the handle. Maybe Natalie isn't like every girl out there. I'm fine with that. I think that is one of the things that drew me to her. She said she is coming to my game on Monday. So Ice better bring that sign so I can remember to keep it together.

P.S. After the game I took my sock off and noticed that my big toe nail from my right foot was still in the sock...Grody...bloody sock.

Celebrated the first win with a little Panda!

This mug makes me miss cheese

This is always good advice
