Don't listen to Lebron

You can overcome anything. Anything is possible. If you want it hard enough you can achieve it. The American dream is yours if you want it badly enough.
A few weeks ago I was at a graduation where a young man got up in front and told his story. When he was coming out of high school he didn't get very good grades. He didn't know if he would be successful in college. But then somebody believed in him. He got an incredible scholarship and he went to college and got a degree. He never thought that it was going to happen the way it did. He told everyone in the audience that the reason that he got through and was able to get his degree is that he believed in himself. When he said that I got very uncomfortable. As everyone was applauding his speech I was thinking about what was missing from it.
The truth is that you can't do anything that you set your mind on doing. You could want something worse then anything, but if you don't have the ability to get it then it wont happen. That's a pretty obvious statement. I do not know the guy who gave the speech at the graduation. For all I know he might have an awesome friendship with Jesus. But when he says that you just have to "believe in yourself" I think that for a Christian the opposite is true. We must believe in ourselves less. I am not talking about having a low self image or low self worth. I am talking about where we are getting our self image and self worth from. I am saying that the American dream should not be our dream if we are to follow Christ.
Christ loves me and he wants to bless my life. But I don't think he is concerned with blessing it the way I might want it to be blessed. A big house, a big salary, a nice car, these are things that I covet. Christ isn't interested in those things for me. He knows about a happiness that exists on this earth that I haven't really thought about. He knows about it because humans have walked on this earth and had this kind of joy. Enoch walked with God.
Lebron's message is the same message of every good person out there that wants to make a difference but really doesn't know where true happiness comes from. "Believe it and you can achieve it". "Hard work pays off". It's alot easier to say this kind of thing when you are the best basketball player in the world. If success in your mind is being at the top or being the best to be the best then maybe Lebron's equation would work. Maybe the American dream can come true for you. I just want you to change your dream. If you desire to be a Christian then let your dream be to walk closely with God. You can start tomorrow morning with some time with him.

Washington Square Park

This is one of my favorite things i've posted cause it's so stupit. TBT

I’m not a famous person. Maybe one day people will see me in an airport and say “Hey you are that guy that works for that famous blog Lovestopicnic.com. I love that blog!” I will respond “Why yes I am actually Big Rich from Big Rich’s Small World.” And then they will say “You aren’t that big though. What happened?” Then I’ll get kinda mad and will try to wrap up the conversation.

Throughout my life I have had the opportunity to meet/run into some pretty famous people. Well they aren’t “Really” famous just moderately famous. Most of the time I try to act real cool so they don’t know that I’m jumping up and down inside. I have decided to let some of these stories out. I know my readers will love them. Some of them will be really short. Like one sentence short. For example: I saw Danny Ainge peeing in the bathroom at Magic Mountain. I don’t know what else I can add to that story. I guess I could say: I saw the “Stormin Mormon” peeing in the bathroom at Magic Mountain. Yeah that sounds better. For those of you who don’t know Danny Ainge is a basketball player that went to Brigham Young University. He then went to the Celtics where he won some championships and he is now the GM there. He was the one who suckered Kevin McHale into trading Kevin Garnett for some season tickets and his facebook password.

But here‘s my story of the time that I saw “Slim Thug”. Now if you don’t know who Slim Thug is he is a Texas rapper. He comes from H town. That is Houston for those of you who aren’t down. Right now I can’t think of anyone of my friends that would recognize Slim if they saw him. Maybe Samantha Paradise would. He is kinda underground but he had a part in the song “Check up on it” that was recorded by Destiny’s Child. Anyway for one reason or another I was in Atlanta and we were eating at the Cheesecake factory in Buckhead. Buckhead is the very ritzy part of Atlanta that has a lot of premium shopping and restaurants. As I recall my boys Mike Polite and Mike Mcladde were with me that evening. We were walking out of the factory after our meal when I saw him. Now there is something about famous people. I don’t know what it is about them but whenever you see them you might not know who they are but you know that they are somebody. How do you know if they are somebody. It usually comes down to what kind of clothes they are wearing and how much bling they have on. Rappers are usually wearing one of two brands. Either Louis Vutton or Gucci. They like nice clothes that are not understated. It can’t be nice without having the brand slapped in your face. When you are a rapper and people have to guess which brand you are wearing you have already lost. The bigger the emblem of the brand the better.
So up walks this huge black guy with Gucci shorts and a huge white T shirt. I stopped in my tracks because I knew that I recognized him. He had a huge iced out masterlock on his chain that he was wearing. And when I say masterlock you are correct if you are thinking “that thing that I used to put on my locker in high school”. Yeah I know it’s awesome. I kept staring at this dude cause I knew him but the name hadn’t popped in my head yet. I finally saw the Houston Astros hat that he was wearing and I knew who it was immediately. Nobody wears Houston Astros hats if they aren’t from the H town. It used to be like that with the Royals but now I see tons of people wearing Royals hats. I don’t think that’s fair. You can’t wear a Royals hats unless you have been through the pain I’ve been through.
So anyway I ran inside the factory cause Mike Polite was buying some cheesecake for the road. If any of you guys know Mike you know that’s something that he would do. I found him and I said “Mike, that dude Slim Thug is outside waiting for a table!” Mike replied “Who is that”. After I talked to everyone else that was in my group I realized that I was the only person who knew who he was. I don’t know who that is sadder for, me or Slim. We grabbed Mike and as we passed Slim one last time he gave me a mean “I’m fittin to beat you up” look. I guess Slim didn’t like the way I was staring at him. I probably should steer clear of messing with dudes with the first name of Slim.

Oh Snap I wrote this article before finding this picture but this is pretty much the outfit he was wearing. Sick!

Double Down TBT
