Blog Spotlight of the day: Supercool Beans

Today I want to focus on my boy Mike Beans. If I was to blame anyone for my ankle surgery I would have to blame him. Cause it was after some sick street hoops at the Calvert Rec center courts that I began to feel some pain. But thats behind us cause my boy Mike is in Egypt this year. Yeah thats right. Now you know why you haven't seen as many track suits around campus lately. I was hoping someone would take his Basketball shorts with a polo shirt style and run with it. But no one has. To be completely honest with you I kinda miss the kid. I have no idea what he is doin out there but when I think about it the picture in my mind always goes back to the movie "The Ten Commandments". I always picture him stomping around in mud making bricks, or swimming in the Red Sea. I don't know. So yeah here is my shout out to the only dude I know to fall asleep at a Superbowl party. Holla! P.S. Judging from this picure this dude must be serious about playing the guitar.

Blog Spotlight of the Day: Sethboy

Today my blog spotlight is on one of my road dogs Seth Geezy. Seth and I had a troubled relationship from the start when we were lab partners in physics. Yes it is true Seth and I were in college at the same time. Does that make me seem young, or make him seem old? Lets just say that the Lab did not bring us closer. I think he had a problem with me making him do all of the work and then taking credit for it. But thats all water under the bridge now. Right Seth? You know you are struggling in a class when you are taking the test and you are done in thirteen minutes and then you look around and everyone else that is taking the test is still on the first page. So then you sit around and wait so it doesn't look like you finished that much before everyone else. There was only one other person in that physics class who was on my same level of knowing nothing about physics. That was the kid Groenoweg. We would give each other the signal and leave a good half hour before anyone was close to being done. After that we would be the roadies for the Union College Basketball team. Hey Seth thanks for having my back when that huge farmer dude wanted to beat me up for cheering really loudly for Union. Oh wait when I turned around you were running for the exit. So I guess we shouldn't be friends at all. We did take that STOP class together. So thats good enough. Seth is my boy and by the way
She said yes! HOWLA!

Blog Spotlight of the day: Trey Sharp

What is there to say about the Bluegrass Bomber. My man Trey Sharp was in Lincoln the last couple of days and it was good to kick it with him and reminice about the C-Unit. If you have ever met Trey you know he is a proud supporter of the Big Blue Nation. He dies for Kentucky basketball. The last couple of years it hasn't been awesome for him but I have a feeling this year Kentucky will be flirting with 500. Whenever we hang out we enjoy discussing how Kansas is goin to cut down nets and I like that. Seriously Trey is my homey for life and if you are in the Berrien Springs area hit him up. He introduced the phrase "eyeball cereal" at Union College. And he is one of the most positive dudes you can meet. I tried to find a funny picture of him but I couldn't. So here is one of him being 100% Trey.

Blog Spotlight of the day: Drewbob
Drew Johnson is the funniest kid I know who doesn't tell jokes. He is just funny because he is. I first met Drew my senior year of high school. He was the starting point guard on one of the worst teams in all Mid America basketball history. When he got to Union his freshmen year I was really excited. That year I spent time in his room playing basketball and breaking Travis's computer. Its always nice to see Drew cause when you see him you know that Minnetonka Minnesota is in the buildin. And please believe when I'm in Minnetonka I always have to stop and say hello to Bob and throw some dogs on the grill. (Drew is the guy who I stole Holla atcha Behh from).

Blog spotlight of the day: The Thomas family
Today our Blog spotlight is on one of my favorite families. The first time I met Angry Aaron Thomas was several years ago. He had long blonde hair and it was flowing in the thunderdome. We were not friends for the first couple of years because I was bitter about how he blocked me when our teams played basketball in intramurals. After I got over that I realized that this kid was going somewhere. Aaron is one of the nicest guys I know and I am goin to miss him this year. Nobody is angrier than Angry A! The first time I met Allison she was a senior at Burton Academy. She acted like there was no chance she would ever come to Union. I talked to Aaron about her and he didn't seem to think there was much of a chance of her coming either. She tells me that I had nothing to do in recruiting her to come to Union. I have no response to that. I am glad that she did come and last year It was great having her in the office every day. Sadly she is goin to Argentina with her brother this year. Selfishly I wish she was staying but apparently my opinion means nothing to her. Who is goin to bring the 7-Layer bean dip to the Superbowl party!? Who is goin to boss me around in the office?

Blog Spotlight of the day Courtney Geezy
As I was starting out my morning I happened to glance at the morning clocktower that gets delivered to my door. There were some interesting articles about the new gate behind the Don Love building and greeting sm's when they get back. All good stuff. Until I reached the end where I saw that my student worker Courtney had been interviewed. I thought to myself "Courtney is my pal, lets see what she says about life". Half way down the interview I realized that me and my blog were all a part of a foolish charade. First she disrespects me by saying that she does all the work around the office, and second she describes my blog as "bootsy". I rubbed my eyes to see if what I was reading was true. Why did I hire this young lady only get to get stabbed in the back in a national publication. Oh well I am over it. Maybe the shoutout in the clocktower will get my blog more recognition. And Courtney if you are reading this you are fired! (You know I am kidding don't leave I need help for preview days, plus my wife thinks you are neat, and you threw me that volleyball so we are friends, and I need a ride to the airport in like twenty minutes and Natalie is at work, in ya face.)

Blog Spotlight Jimmy Time Every Time
I know most of the people that look at my blog(Seth)have been waiting for this moment for a long time. This is actually the hardest blog spotlight that I have had because what can you say about Jimmy that will capture the essence that is James Phillips. I don't think anyone understands him. He sure hasn't made it an easy task. He lives his life in a way that sometimes you just want to go up to him and say "You forgot to not do that". The first time I met Jimmy he was but a smallish high schooler at the illustrious Platte Valley Academy. I was surprised to find a young man with way more confidence then he should have had. Our teams played each other and I will admit he had a way better game then I wanted him to. You see that is thing about Jimmy. He is always there for the big moments. He lives for the spotlight. And when it is on him he takes his game up a notch. That would put it at notch one. We had many battles in the thunderdome. He lives by the saying "go big or go home". I have never in my life seen a person "go big" as much as Jimmy. Jimmy and I will probably go down in history as the two biggest ball hogs ever at Union College. While I was happy to dribble around not goin anywhere at the top of the key Jimmy would pull the 35 footer like it was a free throw. He embraced the role of ball hog and took it to the next level and I appreciate that. This is all the tip of the Iceberg when it comes to Jimmy. I could write a whole book from what I have learned from him. And that is what makes Jimmy a great guy. He is loyal to all of his friends and he lives his life to the fullest. It is Jimmy time every time and I am not mad at that.

Secret Follower Spotlight Buell Fogg
I just wanted to throw a shout out to my guy Buell Fogg. A lot of people think they know Buell Fogg. But I really believe that nobody, and I mean nobody (besides K Fogg) knows this guy better then I do. He has over 2600 friends on facebook and by the time you are done reading this he will be to 3K. He goes by a few names, Bull Frog, Bueller, Tiny Fogg, the doctor(because of how he operates), PN, but most notably Mama aint raise no fool Buell! Upon hearing the last nickname Kathy replied that he did it all by himself. I have known Buell for a dozen years but I really got to know him about three and a half years ago when I started working at Union. Since then we have logged some mileage. We have flown countless miles in the air, sat in many airports, and please believe we have driven the old dusty trail. I would say that Buell is my main road dog. We can be sitting in the car for two hours not saying a word to each other and then one of us will bust a Pulp Fiction reference and we just take it from there. The morning of my wedding I got a call from Buell telling me that the weather was bad and that he wasn't going to be able to make it. I got really sad and I said "Buell get in the car". He replied "I can't let down my boy". They made it two minutes before the ceremony started. He would always make fun of me for having a blog. He called it weak sauce. But I know that he secretly is reading this thing. So as my man Buell would say "Thas Wassup".

Blog Spotlight of the day: The Stouts
When I was thinking of my spotlight this weekend I heard that Logan's parents were in town. So Saturday afternoon I decided to go over to Logan's new crib (take note Ladies)to interview them. When you meet Ricky Lee and Marsha Jo Stout you realize that you would be hardpressed to find a nicer set of people. Whenever I am in the middle of Missouri they have always been there for me to give me a place to stay. I always like to save Union money and they have never charged me not even one night to enjoy their hospitality. Ricky Lee Stout is the head coach of the women's basketball team at Sunnydale Academy and Marsha Stout is the assistant coach/stat taker/team mother. You couldn't find nicer people. Not to mention that they have raised Logan into the fine young man that he is today.

Blog Spotlight of day Justin Henry

What can I say about my dude Justin that hasn't already been said about the bathrooms in Culver. Justin Henry is to my life what Marilyn Manson is to kids who cut themselves. He goes by alot of names. J, J Henny, J Hen, Henny no chaser, Henny and Coke, the prom date, shaggy, latin lover, and Justin. He lives by several creeds. His main one being you go street you get beat. After I saw that this was true I stopped going street. Which has really impacted my life. If I could tell you one thing about Justin that you didn't know it would be that he takes no prisnoners. For example one time Justin and I were beating up this kid on the corner of 56th and Calvert when I decided that enough was enough. I said "Justin we've hurt this kid pretty badly I think we need to go ahead and take him prisoner." Justin turned to me and gave me a look that was so gangster that I have never looked him in the eye since then and said "Rich maybe you don't know this about me about me but I TAKE NO PRISONERS". If I had to say something about his basketball skills I would say that his defense is wak. Truth be told Justin is my guy. Ever since he came to Union we have been pals. Basketball games (either against each other or Warriors) would not have been the same without him.

Cool Blog, Seth Pierce
I went to College with this guy and he is still working in the Kansas/Nebraska Conference. This blog is only funny if you are an Adventist. Here it is
Blog follower spotlight of the Day Ed Mejia
Being funny is alot like baseball. There are your power hitter comedians. They go for the homerun laugh. But just like your power hitters in baseball they strike out alot. There are also guys that are funny for average. These are the type of people that consistently make you chuckle. My man Ed is like the Tony Gwynn of funny dudes. I rarely have a chance to talk to this guy but I really think he is one of the funniest guys on the internet. His Bulletin updates rarely miss. I think he has also had the most comments on my blog. That means alot to a dude from south KC. And since I mentioned Chase's blazing speed let me say something basketball wise about my man Ed. He never saw a no look pass that he did not like. Actually he never saw a normal bounce/chest pass that he could not turn into a no look pass. The homey Ed once did a no look in bounds pass after a bucket. You could say he is the the Oscar De La Hoya of the hardwood.

Spotlight on secret follower Chase Tikker
My blog has grown these last couple months. Its credibility has risen with the help of some big name secret followers. Today I want to spotlight my real boy Chase Tikker. He goes by alot of names. A few to his face. Tik, C Tik, Mr. Never wear the same thing twice, 50, Feezy, Ferrari, F 50, The Newcomer of this summer. Yeah you have heard of him. He also has a reputation on the court for blazing by you with a blinding first step. Word on the street one night at late night he hooped on cats. Right now he is kickin it in the Inland Empire. So if you are a single lady and you are lookin for a good time Holler at Chase. He is probably the chillest cat I know. Just look at this picture. Ryan Barnett obviously flustered at the picture while Chase is cool as the other side of the pillow.
