This last Thanksgiving we all got together at my mom and dad's house in Kansas City. Natalie and I got there before my sister and Ted. When Miriam arrived she walked through the door and it felt like I had just seen her earlier that day even though I hadn't seen in her in over half a year. Why did it feel like I had just seen her earlier that day? Because I had seen her on facebook. I can't even remember what life was like without these social websites. Everybody is always up to date with everybody. We know when they got a haircut, when and where they went on vacation, who they are dating now, and what they are a fan of. It is so convenient. You don't even have to ask anymore questions because you already know. This is the age that we live in. My family usually knows what is goin on with me because of this blog. Wednesday afternoon I was riding in the car with the Cress family and I brought this subject up. You see I keep thinking back to Thanksgiving when I saw my sister. How can you miss anyone if you never spend time apart? How can you catch up with someone if everybody is constantly up to date? Daniel felt like I did and said that he missed missing people. Trina quickly brought up a good point and said that since they can't travel alot these websites keep you up to date without having to spend money.
We are living in a time where we are more in contact with the world then we have ever been before. The United States of America has never been a smaller place. I think what I am trying to say is we are very close to our friends while also being very far. We see the highlights but we don't get to enjoy the journey. We get the text messages but we are missing out on the phone calls. If you have a moment talk to your friends and see what's going on. You might be surprised by what they didn't put on facebook.
