Thursday Night In The Thunderdome

The top four teams in the last Power Rankings battled out tonight in that dome.  Two great games both decided by one point.  This league is up for grabs.  One of the four teams that played tonight is going to win this thing.  And when the playoffs start the third seed is going to have to play the fourth seed as the first game.  Now that I think about it how is the playoffs going to work if there are six teams?  Do the top two teams get bye's?  Anyway that it works out it well pay dividends to be one of the top two teams.  A basket here or a foul there and these power rankings would be totally different.  And just so you are aware these power rankings are just for fun and don't mean anything so don't let them hurt your feelings...unless I say something specifically to hurt your feelings.  So let's get it started.

1.  Orange Team  3-0
Conveniently for these P Rankings there is only one undefeated team.  The Orange team has played three pretty close games.  They have won all of them.  Tonight's matchup was against the Yellow Squad.  Each time Jared and Richard's teams meet you know that mug is finna be close (third person).  Besides the championship game last year (Richard's team got beat like they were cutting up in church) all of the games have come down to the last one or two possessions.  Earlier this season Jared scored 30 points in a game.  Orange's game plan revolved around stopping Jared.  They did a pretty good job of containing him but during the shuffle Drew Meckleburg was able to get open and make some shots.  Orange was able to keep it's composure and play tough in the second half to have a six point lead heading into the final minutes.  Sloppy play down the stretch gave yellow a chance for one last look.  Chris Fairchild who has been playing big in clutch situations all season stepped up and sealed the game with a steal.  Orange has two things going for them.  They play pretty smart and they don't get rattled.  In two out of the three games this season they have been trailing at half and have found a way to circle the wagons and win the game.

2.  Maroon Team 3-1
In the second game of what I like to call Big Thursday the Maroon team matched up against the Gray team.  Once again it would take some last second heroics to win the game.  Demion started the game red hot by hitting three consecutive shots.  By the middle of the first half Maroon had control of the game.  They have a complete squad of guards and big guys.  You can't leave Jordan or Zak alone on the outside.  And Mitch is as versatile as anyone in this league.  Boomer was hampered with early fouls and was not really able to get into the flow of the game.  But Gray kept on fighting til Shawn Santana was able to tie the game with a tear drop jumper in the lane.  You know the rest of the story.  Mitch drove the length of the floor got fouled and sealed the game with a free throw.  Maroon has too many good players for you to sneak by them.  If you beat them you have to earn it.  That makes what Yellow did to them earlier in the season that much more impressive.  Maroon is a complete squad from top to bottom.

3. Gray Team 3-1
This team is one free throw away from being #1 in these P Rankings.  As a matter of fact the Orange team is one Jared Henry last second jumper from being fourth in this thing.  That is how close this league is.  Isn't it convenient that it all worked out this way.  There is not much you can say about this team except to say that they are a tough team that found itself in loss column.  It's almost as if this team has too many weapons.  In their first game of the season Demion played the point and wasn't looking for his shot.  Shawn killed it with threes.  In the game tonight Boomer was in foul trouble so Demion stepped up.  I'm not sure if this team isn't the best team in the league.  They are certainly the most dangerous. They present match up problems all around.  And one thing is for sure this team has more confidence then the other six teams combined.  Is that a good thing or a bad thing?  Only time will tell.

4. Yellow Team 3-2
This team has played the toughest schedule by far.  It has played all of the top teams and played them tough in every game.  This team has a game plan and they know hot to execute it.  They might have the purest scorer in the league with Jared.  And even though everybody knows that Jared is their main scorer they still have players that will step up if they need to.  Tonight Jared didn't have a high scoring game but  Drew and Michael kept them in it.  Because of the experience and smartness of the players on this team no one will want to play them in the playoffs.  This team sets the best picks and they probably have the best shot selection.  Because of all of the things that I just said I thing that I would rather play anyone else then the Yellow team.

5  Navy Blue Team  1-3
This team is so close to putting it together.  They just don't have the experience to beat the top teams in this league yet.  They are one J Money Mess three and one Jacob Trana tomahawk slam from being competitive.

6.  Purple Team 1-3
This team gave Orange everything they wanted in the first game of the season.  Holding a team to six points in a half is good at any level of basketball.  But since that game Purple has not seemed as interested in the season.  In their last game against Maroon they were within grasp the whole game.  But they didn't keep their intensity up for the whole forty.  If they play against teams like they did in the first half of the Orange game then they are as good as anyone in this league.

7.  Light Blue 0-4
This team need to get better.  Max and Kyle have been doing their thing but it hasn't resulted in wins.  They have some winnable games coming up.  We'll see if they are able to take advantage.
