Yellow vs Gray Intramurals starting off Crazy!

1 vs 4!!!  This is the biggest game of the season!!!  It's also the first game of the season.  After the rankings came out last week it is fair to say that there were some teams that were not satisfied with their spot.  The most outspoken of those teams was the Gray team.  They seem to think that they should have been ranked higher in the rankings without any reason for it.  Maybe their reason for wanting to be ranked higher is because their team is made up of late night all stars.  It is a fact that the Gray team is made up of guys who show up on a regular basis and do their thing on the late night courts.  But since when has late night dominance meant anything in Intramurals?  Last year Jared Henry's team won the championship.  One of their biggest contributors Edgar was always at late night...late night volleyball.  The year before that Richard and Jason's team won.  A couple of married dudes who's wives didn't let them stay out late.  So just because a team has players who dominate the court when everyone else is in the library or making out with their girlfriends doesn't equal intramural success.
That being said Gray still has a very strong squad.  It was made stronger with the free agent pick up of Shawn Santana.  This very well could have been the steal of the draft.  If Shawn is able to mesh with Boomer and Demion then this league could be in trouble.  This team has a huge chip on their shoulder.  I think they might pull the "nobody said we could do this" card and play really tough.
Yellow starts the defense of it's crown with a tough draw.  But don't be fooled, Yellow is a smart team.  I don't expect them to come out in a man to man.  Most likely Gray will have to solve some kind of zone to get their points.  Gray will also have to handle a fair share of pick and rolls on defense if they plan to win this game.  This game is a big game but we must remember that it's also just one game. Last year the eventual champion struggled early.  Whoever wins this game will be making a statement to the rest of the league.  Whoever loses this game will be by no means be out of championship hopes.  When I asked Drew Mekelburg about the game he said "We will fight with the ghost of Joe Paterno, and thus our hammers will be mighty".  If you aren't at the Thunderdome at 5:30 then you really aint about nothin.
