Michael Lewis at Princeton

Michael Lewis brought some things out here in his Baccalaureate address that I thought was very thought provoking.  "People really don't like to hear success explained away as luck, especially successful people. As they age and succeed people feel their success was somehow inevitable.  They don't want to acknowledge the role played by accident in their lives."
I fear that even as Christians we don't give God the credit that he deserves for anything that is good in our lives.  We are human.  We would like to think that we pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps.  We would like to think we worked harder than anyone else at college and at work.  We could have worked harder then anyone and deserved it in the world's eyes.  We could have been lazy and not deserved it at all.  But true success and happiness is a blessing from God.  Anything good that happens to us is from God. If we change our mindset of giving ourselves credit when things go right and stressing out when things go wrong I believe we will be able to see God's hands in every aspect of our lives.  This will strengthen our faith going forward and put the spotlight where it belongs:  On the face of Jesus.
