My thoughts on Tim Tebow

Is God helping the Denver Broncos win because of Tim Tebow?  I don't believe that to be true.  Does God have something to do with how Tim Tebow plays and what kind of man and leader he is?  Absolutely.  If you believe that God is doing special things during these games to help the Broncos win then you aren't giving Tim Tebow credit as an athlete.  If you think that God is performing miracles on the field through Tebow  then you must believe that God has been involved in the final scores of his games since he was in high school winning state titles.  Tim Tebow has won at every level of football.  It has carried over into the NFL.  Do I think he will win on Saturday night?  No I don't.  Do I think that means that God has turned his back on him.  Nope.  I think Tebow wins games because he is a good football player period.  If he loses it is because he would have run into some better football players playing better together.
It bothers me when people say that they are going to go to church if Tebow wins this Saturday.  That is a funny thing to say.  Why would it bother me if people are going to church.  It isn't that they are going to church it is the "why" they are going to church.  They see Tebow's success on the field and think that maybe they can have the same success in their own personal lives if they go to church.  If the reason that you are going to church is because you want to be successful then I believe you are going to church for the wrong reason.  Does going to church and having faith develop you as a person?  Yes it does.  But these are biproducts of going to church not the reason.  The reason we should go to church is that we love Jesus and we want to learn more about him.  Not because we are promised all the world's riches.

Hey Rich, I agree. For me it just seems silly that football would influence your religious views at all, but I am not a football fan. But one thing Pastor Rich always said to me when I would get frustrated that students were texting or talking during programs is at least they are at church. At least they are going at all. I also think about in the old Testament where Paul talks about how people were spreading lies about Christ, but he wasn't concerned because Christ can take those lies and turn them into something beautiful. So yeah it's frustrating, but maybe those people will come because of football and Christ can turn that into something beautiful too.

I hope you are right. I think all the way around there is a misunderstanding about who God is and how God works. I think that people believe that life will be easier if you believe and follow God. I don't think it will be easier. I think it will be better and more fulfilling.
