Power Rankings Week 3: Slowly separating the contenders from the pretenders

The rigorous intramural schedule has a way of separating the wheat from the chaff.  We are beginning to see teams take on the personality of their captains and main players.  The season is half way over and the games will keep getting more interesting as teams jockey for playoff positions.  Who is good in this league?  Is Purple a legitimate #1?  Is Maroon good or are they feasting on some of the weaker teams?  Will the light blue team ever stop anyone?  These questions will be answered before we see the break of spring.  But first let me break down this week's Power Rankings.

1. Purple Squad
Purple and Navy had the match up of the week.  Navy came out to a big lead but the better team won in the end.  Purple had to much fire power that game.  They keep their top spot in the Power Rankings until somebody takes them down.  1 vs 2 did not disappoint.  Next week should be exciting for this 3-0 squad.

2.  Maroon Squad
When this team was drafted many people were skeptical of the team chemistry.  After a misstep in their first game they have turned it around and played to their strengths in the low post.  Damien has been playing well as the point forward and Max has been shooting the ball well.  They shouldn't be upset at their 2-1 record.

3.  Light Blue Squad
Light Blue rebounded from a tough loss to Gray to play a pretty good game against the Green Team.  Richard Young played a good first half and Light Blue hung on down the stretch.  This team has not played its best game yet.  If they ever put it all together they will be able to go far in the playoffs.

4.  Navy Squad
The loss to the Purple team has dropped them down a couple notches.  They have an excellent chance to rebound from this if they beat the Light Blue team on Tuesday.  You will need to be in the Thunderdome for this game.

5.  Gray Squad
This team is coming back down to Earth after their surprising victory over the Light Blue team.  A tough loss to the Maroon Squad leaves them in the same spot as last week.  If they would have beat Maroon they could have made a case that they are a top 3 team in this league.  They will have other chances.

6.  Green Squad
Underrated at the beginning of the season this team still has a chance to win some games.  I think they will.

7.  Yellow Squad
They got off the schneid with a win against Orange.  Will they be able to string some wins together?  I hope so.

8.  Orange Squad
It was fun to see Greg Steiner hooping for the Orange Squad.  Maybe Greg can play every game and provide a spark.  I don't know.
