I did love it. I also didn't expect it to be linear and I know Malick's Voiceover style. Rather enjoy that type of narration. Like reading thoughts. Saw three lame old couples walk out. They probably wanted to see a predictable ending with Shia LaBouff saving someone.
It was a like watching a beautiful painting be painted in layers, except the layers were time, nature, strife, existentialism, love, grace, chance, will, nostalgia, Texas, and operatic music. Did he bite off more than he can handle? maybe. But he aimed way high and the result was Kubrick-esque in magnitude.
I don't know, I like postmodern art and am a sucker for great cinematography. It was no Howard The Duck.
