Sunday conversation: Kati Britton

I had a chance to talk with a recent grad of Union College and great friend of Lovestopicnic Kati Britton.  It is very interesting to see what people do when they leave here.  She has some good advice.

Richard: What has been the hardest about transitioning from a college girl to the real world?
Kati:Staying true. True to my standards and my beliefs.
At Union I was surrounded by so many friends and a TON of great influences. I never questioned who I was going to be with on a Saturday night or on a random weekday adventure. After college though, I moved out to a place where I don't really have friends like that. The few people I have met have different beliefs and standards and has cause me to question a lot of my decisions. However, I have learned that being alone is better than being with people that will "help me stray". But being alone to stay true has been the hardest thing for me.

Richard:Now that you have graduated from college and you are four years removed from high school how is your life different then you thought it would be the day you graduated from high school?

Kati:In 2007 I truly believed that after college, I would be either a professional salsa dancer, softball player or in love and living as a missionary over seas. I'm single and sitting in an office doing advertising, promoting and project managing in Maryland. I'd say very different.

Richard: What advice would you give a freshman just about to enter college?
Kati: 1. Yes, first few classes are a breeze, but the easy classes also count towards your GPA.
2. Choose your friends wisely. The friends you make in College are irreplaceable and imperative.
3. Get involved! Play sports! Go to ASB events!
4. You don't need to try it to know it's not good for you.

Richard: What kind of advice would you give to a senior that is about to graduate?

Kati: Don't get stressed if your "ideal plan" gets shifted. Trust. Also, move to a place where there is a lot of youth. Old people can be a drag.

Richard: last question. When you think about your college experience what jumps out in your mind? What does Union College mean to you?

Kati: Warrior volleyball. Intramural. Dorm life. Late night super saver runs. Holmes lake workouts. Laughs. Cries. Best friends.  Rich's man cave parties. Late night adventures. Late nights. Mr. Blake. Dodge ball tournament. That was college life for me.
Union College was a stage of my life that taught me to grow physically, intellectually but most of all, spiritually. I love Jesus more because of UC.
